Instagram is set to launch a new video editing app called “Edits,” available in app stores on 30th April 2025. Yes, another editing app for social media.
This announcement follows the temporary removal of ByteDance’s CapCut from app stores as part of the TikTok ban, leaving creators searching for alternatives. Meta has a history of quickly stepping in to fill market gaps. For instance, they introduced Threads during Twitter’s period of uncertainty and launched Instagram Reels when TikTok was banned in India.
“Edits” will be a standalone app from Meta, designed to provide content creators with advanced editing tools and “professional” video customisation, positioning itself as a competitor to other popular editing apps like CapCut.
Instagram Head Adam Mosseri emphasised that Edits will be more than just a video editing app, describing it as “a full suite of creative tools.”

Mosseri also noted that new features would be tested in Edits before potentially being rolled out to Instagram and Threads.
Finally
Edits could become a valuable tool for creators and brands looking to enhance their video content.
Our prediction? While Instagram hasn’t explicitly confirmed this outright, we feel that posting directly through Edits might offer an advantage in the algorithm, given Meta’s preference for users engaging with their in-house tools.
